📖 The BCS Scale

Body Condition Score Explained

The BCS 9-point scale rates from 1 (very thin) to 9 (severely obese). An ideal score is 4 or 5 out of 9. Studies show lean dogs live up to 2 years longer than overweight dogs.

🔎 At-Home Check

Run thumbs along the spine and fingers along the ribcage with light pressure. Feel each rib easily? Good. Check from above for a waist, and from the side for an abdominal tuck. Check monthly.
